Red de creadores, red de amigos

Saludos.

Frank Belknap Long (otro amo del terror)

"June 17, 1926
Dear C A S:—
I have not been writing fiction lately—not because the lack of recognition means anything to me one way or the other, but because other affairs have consumed every ounce of my time & energy. I have added paragraphs here & there to my history of the weird tale, but have mostly been busy with reading—amending many literary deficiencies of which I have been ashamed for years."

"January 9, 1930
Dear H.P.L.:
You should have heard from me long before this; but I fell into a round of holiday dissipation, and am only just now beginning to recuperate, and resume my normal routine...At present, I am wondering at the energy which enabled me to do the thing at all. I haven't completed any more stories, though I am dragging on at present with "The Metamorphosis of the World", and am now engaged in killing off an odious bunch of scientists. I wrote 8 or 10 prose-poems just before Christmas, and will try to enclose some of them for you..."

"Howard's death startled and shocked me as it must have shocked everyone else. It is understandable but infinitely tragic and regrettable. . . Sometimes, though, the anticipation of an event is more unbearable than the event itself; and I wonder if Howard might not have pulled through if the nurse had been less frank"

"In my last letter from H.P.L. (postmarked Feb. 5th) he spoke of feeling "rather on the bum," with a combination of indigestion and general weakness, and some sort of foot-swelling caused by exposure to cold. The letter (12 closely written pages) was, however, full of his usual enthusiasm, erudition, delight in scenic walks, etc., and gave little hint of a coming breakdown of health. It is all too melancholy; and it would be no less futile than needless to expatiate on the loss to us who are left. Perhaps it may hasten the awakening of publishers to the loss incurred by American literature — and also to the Poe-like bequest that it has gained."

¡Los dioses los llenen de amigos, camaradas!
